Top Five Football Related Touristic Places in Brazil

When you think about Brazil, what is the first thing that comes into your mind? If your answer is  Football, then this article might be interesting for you.

Brazil is known for the quality of it's football players. It is by far the most popular sport in the country and people are encouraged to watch and play since a very young age. The Brazilian national team is the biggest winner of the history of World Cups and Brazil is one of the biggest exporters of football players of the world.

All of this makes the country a perfect vacation destination for the sport's lovers, so we gathered Top Five touristic destinations for the football fans: 

1.    Maracana, Rio de Janeiro (RJ)

Maracana is officially called Estadio Jornalista Mario Filho,. It is the main football stadium in the country. Located in a very central area of Rio de Janeiro city, it hosts major championship, including the 2014 World Cup's final match. Inside the stadium, there is a Hall of Fame where several players left their foot prints in cement and a Museum telling the history of Maracana and football in Brazil, where fans can see amongst other things, the ball with which Pele scored his goal number 1000, Garrincha’s T-shirts and sneakers, pictures, teams jerseys etc.

2.    Museu do Futebol, Sao Paulo (SP)

This museum is completely dedicated to the history of football and its figures. Located in the old Pacaembu stadium, you can find several flags and art pieces, audiovisual features, real size images of the most famous players, amongst others.

3.    Museu Pele, Santos (SP)

Another museum, but this is entirely dedicated to the life and career of Pele, considered by many to be the best player of the history of football.

4.    Granja Comary, Teresopolis (RJ)

The touristic area was purchased by CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) and became the official training center of the National team.

5.    Engenhao, Rio de Janeiro (RJ)

Officially called Estadio Olimpico Joao Havelange, it is the home field of club Botafogo, but hosts several  football matches and athletics. It has also hosted the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. 

And also, you can always watch the matches whenever in Brazil. You can follow your favourite football club's page on Facebook and receive information about practice, exhibition matches and official matches depending or your travel dates. Even if you are not the biggest fan, watching a football match in Brazil is a must-see and an unforgettable experience.
